The healing crisis will usually bring about past conditions in whatever order the body is capable of handling at that time. People often forget the diseases or injuries they have had in the past, but are usually reminded during the crisis. Reactions may include:
* Increased joint or muscle pain
* Headaches
* Diarrhea
* Extreme fatigue and/or its opposite, sleeplessness
* Nausea
* Sinus congestion
* Fever (usually low grade) and/or chills
* Frequent urination and/or urinary tract discharges
* Drop in blood pressure
* Skin eruptions, including: boils, hives, and rashes. Note: skin eruptions are often misdiagnosed as allergic reactions, resulting in the premature cessation of the cleansing program.
* Cold or flu-like symptoms
* You may think that you actually feel worse or that the treatment is not working at all during a cleanse. Do not despair. These are all signs that your treatment is working and that your body is going through the process of cleaning itself of impurities, toxins and imbalances.
* Such reactions are temporary and can occur immediately — or within several days, or even several weeks, of a detox. Symptoms usually pass within 1-3 days, but on rare occasions can last several weeks.
If you are suffering from a major illness, the symptoms you experience during the healing crisis may be identical to the disease itself. A cleansing, purifying process is underway, and stored wastes are in a free-flowing state.
Sometimes discomfort during the healing crisis is of greater intensity than when you were developing the chronic disease. This may explain why there may be a brief flare-up in one’s condition. Often the crisis will come after you feel your very best. In fact, most people feel a surge of energy during the first few days of a cleanse. It is at that point that your body dumps toxins into the blood stream for elimination. Thus the healing crisis.
Do not be upset. It means your body is eliminating the toxins. Go as slowly as your body needs to so that your elimination is gradual and comfortable.
With a more serious condition there may be many small crises to go through before the final one is possible. Everything must be considered and given its proper place in the build-up to a healing crisis. You should expect it and work with it.
EASING YOUR WAY THROUGH THE HEALING CRISIS
* Drink plenty of fresh water (especially water), juices, and herbal teas to flush the body of toxins.
* Take the Greenfield Organic (GFO) as instructed to make sure that you are eliminating waste promptly. Symptoms frequently disappear immediately after a good bowel movement.
* Use ground flax seed (actually is already in the GFO formula, so just follow the taking instruction) daily to absorb toxins and to help speed their transit through the system.
* On occasion, a good enema or colon-irrigation can provide relief.
* Sometimes, rest is the best therapy.
* And, on rare occasions, a reduction of the dosage or temporary cessation may be required.

Despite more medical knowledge, technology and health care facilities than ever before, the health of the western world is deteriorating at an alarming and ever quickening rate.
Diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, obesity, stroke and attention deficit disorders seem to affect more and more of the people in our lives, if not our very selves. While modern medicine struggles to fight the symptoms of these illnesses, with varying results, who of us stops to think of the underlying cause of these conditions?
What most of us fail to realise is that it is what goes into our bodies, that which we absorb from the air, our food and water that affects the internal environment of our bodies and determines the rate at which we age and our overall level of health.
Toxins absorbed through our external environment (as well as self administered) include:
- exhaust emissions
- chlorinated and fluoridated water
- chemical sprays
- smoking
- caffeine and alcohol
- the eating of processed, high sugar, high fat junk foods
- hormone enhanced beef and dairy products
Toxins then build up within the body, disrupt the pH level and cause blood and tissue toxicity.
Fast pace, high stress lifestyles (combined with poor exercise and eating habits) only serve to add to the on-going problem, escalating the body’s struggle to keep up with daily functioning and the fight to remove the poisons. As these toxins accumulate in our cells, they break down and inhibit the body’s immune system and, over time damage organs, tissues, arteries, joints and glands. When the body becomes over loaded and unable to keep up the fight, it is then that disease creeps in.
Almost all illnesses and diseases are directly related to the health and condition of our body’s internal environment. Toxicity creates a breeding ground for germs and viruses, allowing them to penetrate a weakened immune system. As the old saying goes, “the swamp breeds the mosquitoes, the mosquitoes don’t breed the swamp.”
To regain and maintain vibrant health, reduce the effects of premature ageing and ward off future illness, removing toxicity from the body is paramount.
In our world today, it is virtually impossible to avoid toxic contamination. However, through a regular detoxification or cleansing program combined with some minor lifestyle changes, you can dramatically reduce the harmful effects, increase the length and quality of your life, and live free from sickness and disease.

Our body is designed to utilize natural substances, which includes foods, herbs and phytochemicals. Any foreign substance will serve as a stimulus to our immune system, which has the function of removing these substances. Although the toxicity of a chemical may vary, it is the job of the liver to reduce toxins into compounds that the body can safely handle and eliminate through the kidneys (as urine), skin (as sweat), lungs (as expelled air) and bowels (as faeces). Maintaining these eliminative organs in good working order is essential for one’s good health to continue. While there are many detoxification programs available, they differ in their actions and their intent.
Some detoxification programs work only with the bowels, others may cleanse the liver or the blood, and others may aid the kidneys or the skin in their functions. By combining these detox programs into a total health program, one can effectively restore their health to an optimal level and look younger in the process. When the body can eliminate toxins, then health is restored and energy and vigour are revitalized. Many different approaches to detoxification and wellness will work, even though they attack the problem at different levels. Any program that augments detoxification will improve health. Other factors must be considered in detoxification, like nutrition, water, and exercise, rest, sunshine, and fresh air. As far as nutrition is concerned and without a strict diet or fasting program then here are some of the foods which are not harmful to your detox personal program.
- Fruit fresh frozen or canned but always in natural fruit juice.
- Fruit juices or smoothies Pure and unsweetened
- Vegetables fresh or canned in water and with no added salt.
- Pulses beans and lentils dried or canned in water.
- Potatoes, Fresh fish, Nuts unsalted
- Live natural yogurt, Honey, Herbal or fruit teas.
And what to avoid:
- Red meat, chicken, turkey, and meat products like pate burgers and sausages.
- Dairy products including margarine
- Food containing wheat such as pies pastry, cereals etc.
- Crisps and savoury snacks
- Processed foods, ready meals, and take-ways.
- Alcohol, Coffee and tea, Salt
- Carbonated drinks including diet ones.

Why Detox? August 28, 2008

External toxins from your environment (i.e., chemicals are found in your foods, water and air, pesticides, heavy metals and other pollutants) bombard your body on a daily basis leading to many of the chronic illnesses we see today.
If your body has the proper nutrition in sufficient quantities to provide a healthy biochemistry and if the organs of elimination and detoxification are functioning at optimal levels, your body is able to eliminate these unwanted substances safely and efficiently through cellular processes via the main organs of detoxification (i.e., skin, bowels, liver, kidneys and lungs). Toxins are then eliminated through perspiration, bowel elimination, urination and respiration. However, if the body is taking in more toxins than it can safely eliminate, a state of chronic toxicity may occur. Most chronic illnesses can be attributed to the presence of unwanted substances in the body or the lack of needed substances in the body. When the body has been exposed for a prolonged period of time, it loses its capacity to detoxify at the same rate that toxins are being produced and ingested causing your organs to be weakened.
The presence of unwanted substances in the body is a very common root of illness. The process of eliminating unwanted substances from the body at the cellular level addresses and corrects this imbalance. However, for effective detoxification it is essential to provide the body with the necessary dietary substances so that the body can perform this important and natural function.
A detox allows your body to neutralize and safely eliminate harmful chemicals within the body. The detoxification program is designed to enhance the body’s natural ability to handle toxins. While it is unrealistic to eliminate external toxins completely, the body can be supported in its natural function of detoxification so that it is better able to cope with the daily stresses of modern life. Detoxification has a beneficial effect on most chronic illnesses because it has an impact on almost all systems of the body: cardiovascular, nervous, immune, respiratory, reproductive, gastrointestinal, urinary, skin, musculoskeletal and endocrine.
Detoxification is recommended for individuals who:
* Have chronic digestive problems
* Have impaired liver function due to: alcohol, poor eating habits, high stress, chemical exposure in the workplace, and hepatitis.
* Have chronic headaches
* Have chronic skin conditions
* Stiff, aching joints and muscles
* Susceptibility to infections
* Respiratory difficulties
* Allergies
* Low energy and fatigue
* Depression and moodiness
* Poor quality sleep and insomnia
